Music and Quilting

All Together Now! by Laura Wasilowski

Does music influence your quilt making? Maybe you use the rhythm of the music to aid in the rhythm of free-motion stitching. Or it accompanies you as you hand stitch, adding to the meditative nature of hand embroidery.

And then some songs inspire a quilt design like All Together Now! All Together Now! was part of a traveling exhibit called Inspired by the Beatles: An Art Quilt Challenge. It toured with the collection to seven U.S. venues from 2014 through 2015. I choose this Beatles song because it reminds me of my fun college roommate who played Beatles music to gently wake me in the morning.

All Together Now! is a fused art quilt measuring 24? wide by 24? high. It is hand embroidered, machine quilted, and there is a sleeve on the back for hanging on the wall. Click here if you are interested in adding this musical quilt to your collection.

A Tree is a Haven

This summer I’ve discovered two bird’s nests in our backyard. One nest has been abandoned and is available for those interested in a home nestled in a thorning rose bush.

Another is located in a small tree and occupied by the House Finch family. The Finch family matriarch is very protective of her abode and gives me intense stares whenever I glance in their direction. I try to stay our of their neighborhood.

In honor of the House Finch family, I’ve made this quilt depicting their tree. It’s called Fine Line Tree #5.

Fine Line Tree #5 is a fused art quilt measuring 8″ x 10″. It is made with hand-dyed silk fabrics and cotton threads and lovingly hand embroidered. Click here if your are interested in adding this sweet little art quilt to your collection.

Summer Visitors

One of the delights of summer is the many visitors to our backyard. Birds sing me awake every morning (starting at about 4:00 a.m.!) They dash between the trees, swoop through the garden, and dance on the sunflowers.

Wrens occupy one of the birdhouses. For a tiny bird, they sure can belt out a long and tuneful song. And they are very protective of their territory, scolding me whenever I get near. In honor of the small but mighty wren, I’ve made this quilt Birdland #17.

Birdland #17 is a fused art quilt measuring 12″ x 12″. It is made with hand-dyed fabrics and threads and lovingly hand embroidered. Click here if your are interested in adding this fun little quilt to your collection.
