Not sure what this stitch is really called so I’m calling it the French Fly. It’s made like a Fly Stitch but has a French Knot holding the center of the Fly Stitch in place. Thus the name, French Fly.
Here’s how to make the French Fly: Come up at point A. Insert the needle tip at point B about 1/4’’ away from A. Bring the needle tip up about 1/4’’ from B and midway between A and B at point C. Trap the thread coming out of A under the needle tip at C. Draw the thread through the fabric to make a V shape.
At point C, begin to make a French Knot.
When inserting the needle into the fabric to complete the knot, place the needle tip on the other side of the thread at C. This stitch over the thread holds it in a V shape.
Here’s how to make the French Fly on fabric that is cut with a Pinking blade in the rotary cutter.
Start with the thread exiting the fabric at the tip or peak of the pinked edge.
Insert the tip of the needle at the top of the next peak of the pinked edge.
Skim the needle under the fabric to the valley between the two peaks. Trap the thread coming out of the first peak under the tip if the needle. Draw the needle and thread through the fabric.
Make a French Knot inserting the needle into the fabric on the other side of the thread in the valley. This stitch over the thread holds it in the valley making a V shape that follows the pinked fabric edge adding decorative French Knot at the same time.
