The Story Behind Hearts and Flowers
Once upon a time, there was a quilter freezing in her basement studio. And as she played with her colorful fused fabric scraps, she lamented, “Will I ever see Spring again?”
Then this happened…
The chilly-fingered quilter teaches a class in collage making with fused fabrics. After demonstrating how to create a woven collage from bias cut fabric strips multiple times, she had a stack of woven collages.
Seeing that stack of collages in her studio nagged at her. All of this potential was just sitting on her design table.
Was it her yearning for Spring or the need to warm up with a hot iron that caused her to cut the collages into sunny flower centers? We’ll never know. But we do know she survived the polar vortex to make many more quilts about Spring. We also know she wears long underwear.
The moral of this story? Keep all your fused fabric scraps. You can fuse them now or years from now no matter what the temperature is outside.
