Needle Weaving and Give-Away Winner

Tasty Bite of Apple (detail) from Joyful Stitching by Laura Wasilowski

Want to build texture and hide the background fabric with embroidery stitches at the same time? Try Needle Weaving. This stitch is a combination of embroidery and weaving (without the loom). Here you see heavy patches of Needle Weaving using a Size 8 Asters pearl cotton thread . The variegated Asters thread gives lots of festive color to the humble tabby weave. Isn’t it cute?

needleweaving4To complete your Needle Weaving you may need a long stretch of time. I suggest a good movie or engrossing book on tape. What ever you do, don’t needle weave in the car! (Ask me how I know.) Here are directions for Needle Weaving.

And the lucky winners of our wool and thread give-away for the Tasty Bite of Apple project from my new book, Joyful Stitching are Judith M. and Denise W. I’ll contact you soon.Congratulations!

  1. Am enjoying your Joyful Stitching book! Love it! and Thanks again for designing the needle card where we can find out what needle we have when it is no longer on it’s card telling us!

  2. I’ve been looking on line for wool felt and am overwhelmed by the number of places that sell it and the variety of wool felt for sale. My experience with my purchases so far has been mixed. Following your suggestions, I have a better idea of what to look for, but I wonder if you could list some places that you would recommend from your experiences in using wool. Thanks.

  3. Congratulations to the winners. I also enjoy the book. My stitches aren’t the greatest, but I enjoy trying. I get better with each small piece. I do most of my practicing on felt because I was lucky enough to find a bag of felt scraps at a garage sale last year. They are not exactly my favorite colors, but the price is right and I really need the practice.

  4. I’m so excited to be one of the winners of your giveaway! I took your class at the Quilt Expo in Wisconsin last fall and really enjoyed it. I love wool and I appreciated the way your class freed me up to be more creative in my embroidery and sewing projects. I look forward to getting your new book as soon as it is available in my area. Thank you so much!
